F*** You, Elmo

Mark: Ready?
Jenny: I still feel sad when I think about the nuggets.
Mark: Yeah, me too. I haven't, I've maybe purposely not been thinking about them that much because when I do, it does make me feel sad.
Jenny: How many weeks has it been since they played now?
Mark: Well, I have in my notes that our last podcast we recorded on April 28th, which was after game five. and then they lost game six and their season was over that was probably the next night or a couple nights after
Jenny: Is this podcast ill-advised chime in in the comments
Mark: Should we do it? We're back.
Jenny: We're back. And we have nothing to talk about.
Mark: We have some stuff. We don't have really Nuggets games anymore.
Jenny: No more Nuggets games.
Mark: Yeah.
Jenny: They're all done. I don't know why this... Ghost.
Mark: There's a ghost in the house. I don't know.
Jenny: My microphone's moving. This is the one that should tighten it, right?
Mark: Tighten up. Remember those commercials?
Jenny: Tighten. Tighten auto?
Mark: Yeah.
Jenny: Tighten up. I do remember those.
Mark: Need insurance. Tighten up.
Jenny: Oh, man. Well, I'm glad we're here to talk about it now, because it's been too sad. I went into a Jersey Mike's the other day, and I had a Nuggets t-shirt on, and the person behind the counter said, I like your t-shirt. And all I could think to say was, go Nuggets. Whomp, whomp.
Mark: Whomp, whomp.
Jenny: It was sad.
Mark: They did go out sad. Yeah, I mean, you could kind of see it coming in game two of that series. They just started out great and then looked really flat, which we talked about last time we did one of these. And just seemed like they didn't really care that much, never really found any kind of like energy or togetherness or whatever.
Jenny: Rhythm.
Mark: Rhythm, yeah. Yeah, and then... Minnesota looked so good against the Nuggets and then got absolutely crushed by the Spurs in the next round. So that also wasn't great. And I don't know about you, but thinking about next year and the next however many years, are the Nuggets going to beat the Spurs or the Thunder? or I guess the Knicks now in a playoff series. I know. It's hard to imagine that happening.
Jenny: To me, from the one game that I watched, it seems like the Nuggets would be better matched to the Knicks, maybe. Just because of their age. But I feel like if they're going to have to beat the Spurs in the future to get there.
Mark: The Spurs are so good and they have so many good young.
Jenny: Or young enough.
Mark: players and Wemby's just going to get better and like Dylan Harper and Stefan Castle, like they're all just going to keep getting better. And who on the Nuggets can you say that about at this point? Maybe Peyton Watson if they keep him. Hopefully Christian Brown. I feel like he'll be better next year.
Jenny: I hope so.
Mark: Yeah. I think he was legitimately fighting that ankle injury or ankle and calf or whatever it ended up being for like the whole season. And he was so good the year before this year.
Jenny: I know that for his rookie year, he was so much fun to see. I feel like especially in the playoffs that year, he just turned it up and he wasn't scared.
Mark: I know a lot of people are way down on him, but I feel like he will bounce back next year. He'll be a lot better.
Jenny: Fingers crossed. You don't think he's getting traded?
Mark: I don't know. That's another one of my questions is like, what do you think is going to happen over the summer? You think they're mostly going to run it back with the same guys or you think they're going to make any major moves? What did Ogie tell you when you talked to him?
Jenny: You think I have any opinions about that kind of thing? I have no idea.
Mark: Yeah, me neither.
Jenny: I will be sad if anyone besides Cam Johnson gets traded. I like him.
Mark: The moon township wolf man.
Jenny: I know he was great and I don't have an affinity for him like I do some of those other guys.
Yep.
Jenny: I also this is kind of a side note but what happened to the mile high dreams gala this year? There just never was one.
Mark: That reminds me of when we were talking about how the nuggets just stopped doing the posters when enough of the people who had been like excited to do them and had fun doing them weren't around anymore. And it just kind of like went by the wayside and everybody's like, I don't really want to do that anymore. I don't know for sure, but that's just the seems like the vibe of the team in general.
Jenny: Do we think it's the reason that both the Nuggets and the Avs went out the way they did in the postseason?
Mark: I don't know.
Jenny: Just a theory, just a thought. I decided two years ago that I thought I wanted to go to that event because I think maybe I told you this at the time. I was like, I want to go tell all of those people how important they are to me.
Mark: I do remember you telling me that, yeah.
Jenny: And then I sort of was like, the tickets are kind of expensive. I don't know, maybe this isn't, maybe I'll wait. Maybe I'll try to go next year. And then Michael Porter Jr. left. And I was like, oh no. Well, guess I'm not going to tell him. Thanks for the memories. So then last year, I was like, I'm definitely going. Even if I have to go all by myself, I had like tried to ask a couple of friends if they wanted to go and stuff. But I decided like I'm going no matter what. And then I didn't buy a ticket because I was like, I'll wait till it gets a little closer. Make sure everybody in my house is like on board. And then one of our kids got sick like the week before. And then it was two thousand twenty four. And the event was the day after the presidential election that year. I had not bought a ticket.
Mark: And you were just so happy celebrating.
Jenny: I had taken the day off work because I was like, I'm going to go. And I... You're like, he's back!
Mark: Hell yeah!
Jenny: It was sold out. Like, I went to buy the ticket that day because I was like, I'm still going to go. I feel a deep sense of despair. But maybe that's all the more reason to go try to Talked to Eric Gordon, sold out, so instead I went on my child's downtown Denver graffiti field trip.
Mark: Did you tag some buildings? What was your graffiti name?
Jenny: I didn't have one.
Mark: Yeah, that would have been a fun thing to do on that day to forget about how awful everything was and is, continues to be. Bummer. Well, hopefully they'll do some version of that before all these guys are gone. So you can fingers have that chance to tell them. Maybe tell them, yeah, OK, it's great that we have that memory, but it would be even better if we could have another one.
Jenny: Yeah. Could we do it again?
Mark: Could you guys not play like you are all like chugging Nyquil in the locker room before the game starts?
Jenny: What is happening?
Mark: Oh, brother.
Jenny: Oh, I don't know.
Mark: Yeah, I don't know either. I know right after they lost, I and I'm sure a lot of other people felt like they got blown up. This can't be allowed to stand. They got to make major changes because it's like Jokic's championship window.
Jenny: Still, we got to take full advantage of that.
Mark: They just were so disinterested. And it's like, if you just bring back all the same key players and the same coaching staff, like what evidence is there that next year they're going to get to the playoffs and like try harder and play better? I don't know that there is any. It seems like they've been just kind of sliding farther away from contention. every year since they won the title, then they have been taking strides to get closer, get back there. I don't know. It's hard to imagine. If they just keep all the same key guys, maybe you could argue that they're going to be healthier in the playoffs because again, Aaron Gordon was hurt and Peyton Watson was hurt. But you can't count on that. And if that's the only thing you're counting on, well, but they were injured this year and if they're healthy next year, they'll be better. I, A, don't count on them being healthy next year. And B, even if they are, just the way that they went out this year makes me feel like That it's not going to be good enough and especially with San Antonio now being so good and OKC will be really good again. I don't know, I think they have to do something. You think they brought back Adam in? I don't necessarily think they have to blow it up, because like you said, Jokic is. Probably entering maybe like the back half of the prime of his career. So. They have to do whatever they can while they still have him. So I don't think they need to, like, trade everybody and get a bunch of draft picks or anything, but someone, something. I don't know if that's Aaron Gordon because they can't count on him to stay healthy, which obviously would be very sad, but... Maybe that, maybe Jamal, if they could get... I know, it's sad to think about any of those guys leaving, but I also just don't... I don't know. On the one hand... I know I'm talking a lot, so sorry. It's like... really fun that they're this good and we get to watch Jokic and like a very good team. And we've been through a lot of years where they were terrible and like unwatchable and so I don't want to take it for granted and you know be too over the top because they are still really good. But then on the other hand it's like well you have this one guy who's like the best player that will maybe ever play for the Nuggets and is like one title and then being like pretty good all the other years like good enough or do you want to really like try to get more out of out of this run than that?
Jenny: I would be so curious to ask like individually the players and the coaches and Maybe Josh Cronke. I don't feel the need to ever talk to Stan Cronke. But just like, it feels like a values thing. Like, and if there's a mismatch, then it's probably not going to go the way anybody wants it to, right? Like if what's most important to you is that you win a title because you're, I don't know, Josh Cronke or you're Christian Brown. But that's different for Jokic. What's most important to him is that he makes as much money as he can and then goes to Serbia for the summers. I don't know.
Mark: Funds the Balkan mafia for the next few decades. Maybe that's all he cares about.
Jenny: Yeah. I don't know.
Mark: I don't know either.
Jenny: I would be I would I would be very curious to know what each of them thinks, because I do think there's some element of. Of course, they all want to make as much money as they can. But even if you look at like Bruce Brown came back, right, like he probably could have made more money if he had gone somewhere else last year. But the experience of being in a place you want to be in and like with the people you want to be with is maybe worth some amount of trade-off.
Mark: Yep.
Jenny: I don't know.
Mark: It's hard to tell with these guys, even when they do talk to the media, like so few of them ever really say anything that interesting. It's like all the same thing over and over, same like cliches, because they get asked the same or similar questions after pretty much every game. So, I don't know. Yeah, it's... I wish we could give them like truth serum and then ask them.
Jenny: Tell us what's really going on. We want to know.
Mark: I will say I am so glad OKC lost. When the Spurs beat them in game seven, it was like, it felt like 90% as good as if the Nuggets had beaten them in game seven. I cannot stand watching them. Oh my gosh. They have a bunch of really good players. They're very talented. They have built a team from the ground up, and I just hate watching them.
Jenny: Yeah, I mean, same. Even when they're playing, I haven't watched them intentionally any ever unless they were playing against the Nuggets. And then it's especially annoying.
Mark: Yeah, so that I did take some satisfaction out of that series and the Spurs are just more likeable than the Thunder and they're new and different, but also going to be tough for the Nuggets to beat. But at least it's not the Thunder again.
Jenny: Correct. We don't have to watch Lou Dor anymore this year. Do you know Wemby's a reader?
Mark: Oh, yeah.
Jenny: This is like, you know this about him, right? I just recently saw like a San Antonio library branch had like a whole display.
Yeah.
Jenny: That was like, I think I saw that.
Mark: Read like Wemby. Yeah.
Jenny: Love it.
Mark: Yeah, he seems like a cool guy, thoughtful.
Jenny: Yeah. I read I think it may have been like the same article. He was whoever it was that talked to him, quoted him saying that he reads because he thinks he's reading more now that he's playing in the NBA because the travel is so demanding. And that's like what he does to sort of like disengage after playing while traveling or like waiting for travel.
Mark: And I just was like, he's got to be in the minority there.
Jenny: Well, Jokic made fun of him about it. Maybe last year at the All-Star Game.
Mark: He's such a meathead.
Jenny: He had a book in the locker room. Did you see this? I think so. There was a clip of him like, you have a book? And one of me was like, yeah, I read a book everywhere I go. And Jokic was like, what are you doing?
Mark: And I was like, oh, come on. Yeah.
Jenny: Readers are leaders.
Mark: Although Wemby needs to read a book about which side of your teammate to pass the ball to in the last 20 seconds of a game, because in game two, maybe you didn't see this. I missed it, yeah, I didn't see it. The game was tied, I believe. The Spurs got, I think, a defensive rebound. Wemby had the ball and tried to outlet it to Stefan Kassel Stefan Kassel was not looking for the ball was just running up the court with his back to Wemby and the ball just literally hit him right in the middle of the back and the Knicks got it got fouled made a free throw to win the game They won by one, right? They won by one. Wemby had a pretty good look at a shot that would have given the Spurs the lead with like a second left and he missed it.
Jenny: Oh, dang it.
Mark: Yeah, not his best 30 seconds or so, but he's young. It's true. He'll figure it out.
Jenny: Yep. He's already doing a lot better than I was at his age.
Mark: Yeah.
Jenny: At all sorts of stuff.
Mark: And you're flying to New York and you paid like $20,000 for Game 3 tickets mostly because Trump is going to be there and you wanted to support him.
Jenny: I'm just really hoping to get a pick with my MAGA hat on standing next to him.
Mark: Yeah.
Jenny: I really actually I told someone maybe yesterday that there's a part of me that hopes that the Knicks win. And then one of the players tells like the entire Trump family that they're not welcome in New York anymore.
Mark: Yeah.
Jenny: I don't think it will happen, but it would be so satisfying.
Mark: Someone. I wish someone would say something. Come on, Jalen Brunson.
Jenny: You can do all of this. You can do whatever you want.
Mark: You're the king of New York.
Jenny: Yeah.
Mark: Half, I don't know, 80% of the city would love him even more. I think that that feels right. I don't know.
Jenny: I don't know either anymore. When do we flee? Just kidding. Yeah, I think as much as I appreciate the Spurs for having beat the Thunder and as much fun as they are to watch, I just have like a gut sense that it's going to be a New York thing this year, and New Yorkers are going to be here for it, proud of it.
Mark: Yeah, they're up 2-0.
Jenny: Yeah.
Mark: And the next two games are in New York, so they're looking pretty good. They haven't won a title in 52 years or something.
Jenny: 52?
Mark: Since, like, the 70s. I didn't know it was that long. Yeah, so.
Jenny: It would be really fun to see.
Mark: It would, yeah. Like a lot of New York or East, like New England, New York's, like Yankees fans, Patriots fans are very annoying. And I do not want them to find joy. But the Knicks are different because they haven't really been very good for a long time. And now all of a sudden, like they have this amazing team that's on like I can't remember. They've won like 13 straight playoff games or something. Really? Yes. Come on. Which is just crazy. Yeah, it's like lightning in a bottle. So it has been fun to see that. And they just find ways. Doesn't matter if they're down 15 in the third quarter or whatever, they just somehow get a bunch of stops and Brunson makes a bunch of crazy shots and they end up winning. And sometimes teams just have that magic. They might have that magic this year.
Jenny: Just how it goes. Did you see the kid whose name is Carmelo who had tickets to game five of the conference finals, I think? And that they swept in that one, right? So there was no game five.
Mark: Yeah, they I think they were down 2-1 to Atlanta in round one. So they lost game three of that series and have not lost since. They won the last three of that series. They swept round two against the Sixers, maybe? Swept the conference finals and are up 2-0 in the finals finals.
Jenny: Who did they play in the conference finals?
Mark: Cleveland.
Jenny: OK. Yeah. I think it was that. Would they have been at home for game five?
Mark: OK, so it was no. I don't think so, because I think Cleveland was the higher seed. So it would have been Cleveland, Cleveland, New York, New York, Cleveland, New York, Cleveland.
Jenny: Darn.
Mark: OK, maybe it was game six.
Jenny: In any of this, these details really matter. This kid, he's like he turned, I think he turned 12.
Mark: He's like a New Yorker.
Jenny: He turned up. He turned up and turned 12. He lives in New York, is like a lifelong 12 whole years Knicks fan. He got tickets for his birthday to whatever like the next home game would have been.
Mark: But they won too fast.
Jenny: But they won too quickly and he didn't get to go to the game that he got birthday tickets to. And I think maybe one of his parents posted a video or a TikTok thing of him saying, I'm really bummed, but I'm just so glad that we won. I love this team. Like he was just like I have he had like a great attitude about it. Great. In this video, who knows how long it took him to get there. But it was like I'm publicly saying like, I'm OK with this. Go Knicks, whatever. So then there's a follow up of him opening this box that has a custom jersey with his name on it. And then as he's opening the jersey, he gets a FaceTime call from Carmelo Anthony.
Mark: No way.
Jenny: Who says, we're sending you to a finals game. Wow. I don't remember which one, but he just like his whole face drops. He's like sobbing.
Mark: Wow.
Jenny: And his mom is hugging him. It just it was like the sweetest little moment. And I was like, Carmelo Anthony, you've come so far. I'm so proud of you. I would imagine he probably didn't pay for any of it out of his own pocket. Who knows?
Mark: I mean, he very easily could have.
Jenny: If he did, good on him. And it was just really sweet and fun. I was like, oh, I really I hope they win. Yeah, I hope they win. I have. have a warmth in my heart for the Knicks these days.
Mark: I hope they win because I just really love Kylie Jenner and I want her to be happy. Is she the one that is dating Timothy Chalamet? One of those Jenners.
Jenny: I think it is Kylie. Who's the other one? Kelsey?
Mark: Kendal?
Jenny: Kendra? Kendall.
Mark: Well, there's like all the older ones, Kim and Chloe and Kim, Courtney, Courtney. Yeah. And then Kendall and Kylie and Kylie.
Jenny: I think Kylie is the one that's dating. I think so, too. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, don't let her down, guys.
Mark: Yep. She's the reason you're here.
Jenny: Spike Lee. It would be fun to see Spike Lee's response to the Knicks winning a championship.
Mark: Ben Stiller.
Jenny: Yep.
Mark: All the, yeah, all those famous New Yorkers.
Jenny: Yeah, we'll see.
Mark: Game three's tomorrow.
Jenny: I'll be there.
Mark: Yep.
Jenny: I only have just random anecdotal stories to tell. Elmo tweeted about the game, game one of the finals. Elmo, like official Elmo.
Mark: Sesame Street. Twitter account.
Jenny: Twitter. And what it said was like, I just hope both teams have fun or something.
Mark: People probably lost their minds.
Jenny: People were like, Elmo, you are a New Yorker. Sesame Street is very famously in New York. What are you doing? It was funny.
Mark: Oh, man.
Jenny: And then he followed it up with some play on words to say something about Knicks and Spurs. Sorry, in the nick of time, I didn't mean to spur you on or something like that. I was like, you're gonna get beat up, Elmo.
Mark: It says a lot about our society in 2026 when a puppet can inspire this kind of vitriol. Oh, man.
Jenny: Oh my gosh. What do you think the Nuggets are going to do this summer? What's your guess? Let's make some Kalshi bet fodder.
Mark: Everything that I have heard is like Peyton Watson. He's from California. He is represented by Rich Paul, who was like LeBron's buddy, like coming up and represents a bunch of LeBron and his friends and they tend to direct their clients to big markets, Lakers maybe. So he's a restricted free agent and could get a big offer from a different team that the Nuggets decide not to match.
Jenny: And he would love to play for the Lakers, wouldn't he? That was like his team growing up.
Mark: I don't know, but I'm sure he would love it. And there was, I don't know, like some weirdness at the end of the season with him not ever coming back in the playoffs. I don't know. So I'm worried that he will leave. And then, like, I, you know, like, Giannis is kind of on the trade market, but it would take a lot to get him. They might be able to trade for Kevin Durant, but, you know, like, I don't know. He's still good, but I don't know if getting him with what they would have to give up to get him would make them any closer to a championship team. That's the thing is like when I think about it and when I've heard other people talk about it, there's aren't really like obvious trades they could make where they would like give up one of their really good guys and get back somebody else who's like really good. in return that would make them better than they are now. So, I don't know. I feel like they're kind of stuck. Maybe nothing changes. Yeah, and maybe nothing changes, and they're like the third seed again, and they win a round or something, and that's fine, and I don't know. It's crazy to think, you know, When they won the title, it seemed like they were going to win multiple titles and just be right there for the next five or six years. And you can kind of see it with OKC too, like everybody thought they were going to be that team this year and they didn't make it back to the finals. So you never know.
Jenny: Isn't that what the league has like wanted, though, to make it so that there's not like a dynasty that teams don't
Mark: win a bunch of times in a row? I think so. And it has, it's happened because I think this is like maybe the eighth year in a row that there won't be a repeat champion.
Jenny: Yeah. Is that because of league rules that doesn't have anything to do with the they're like CBA? Does it?
Mark: Yeah, I think it does. I mean, that's where the league, a lot of the league rules come from.
Jenny: Got it.
Mark: So they there's like a I don't know like a stricter salary cap like more it's like more punitive if you like have a really expensive team you lose like draft picks in the future and have to pay a ton of like luxury tax and can't make certain trades. So teams are really wary of that. But I don't know. I mean, OKC wasn't really impacted by that this year. They just happened to lose, you know?
Jenny: Yeah.
Mark: So. That is, I think that is part of it. It's definitely harder for good teams to like keep all of their good players together now than it has been in the past. But it's also that there are just a bunch of other really good players out there and there's always like the next kind of, you know, young team coming up. And Maybe we should be thankful. I definitely am thankful that the Nuggets got one because I never thought that would happen.
Jenny: Same. Thanks for the memories, Nuggets. Have a gala so I can come tell you to your faces.
Mark: Yeah.
Jenny: Jerks. Just kidding. I have wondered because I remember there was one time that someone asked Aaron Gordon about his opinion on the schedule. Mm hmm. And he said very specifically, like, I think it's too many games and it's too many back to backs specifically.
Mark: Yes.
Jenny: And I so like either fewer games over the course of the season or just no more back to backs is like what I would advocate for basically. And there's a tiny part of me that's like, is is he is he starting like a revolution with Soft tissue injury?
Mark: Yeah. Oh, no, but still hurt.
Jenny: Are you going to change the schedule next year or not? But I don't know if that's how that kind of thing works. How often do they renegotiate their contract?
Mark: I mean, I think everybody around the NBA, other than probably the owners, maybe some players too, would love it if they played fewer regular season games. Because there is no question it's too many. And there are guys who like sit out for, you know, just rest, you know, a lot of the season. And then they like come to a visiting city that's really excited to see, you know, whoever play. And they're resting that night and it's not good for anybody. I mean, the players would have to be okay with making less money because they would be playing fewer games. So there would be less revenue from in-person and from TV deals. The owners would have to be okay with that too. And I just don't imagine that's ever gonna happen. But yeah, I mean, it's dumb. There are way too many games.
Jenny: It's dumb.
Mark: There are so many games like in the middle part of the season too, where you can just tell like either one or both of the teams are just like, we don't want to be here. You know, sometimes this year the Nuggets had games where they had like seven or eight healthy guys that could possibly play because they had so many other guys hurt. And they're not the only team that has to deal with that by any means. But like the NFL is about to add an 18th regular season game here in the next few years, which is nuts. So yeah, I don't, I wish they would cut. a big chunk of the regular season schedule 10 games 12 games me too let's see how our nuggets do next year if they have 12 fewer games spread out over the course of the season yeah but i don't i don't i think we'll be long since dead and buried before that ever happens
Jenny: Oh, fine. Fair. It's funny. We have one of our children asked if we could start watching Denver Summit games on TV with watching the Nuggets is like one of the things that we have for their whole life done like, hey, the Nuggets are on. Let's watch. And I was like, oh, yeah, I'll figure out how we watch those games. And then, I can't remember, a little time passed, and I forgot about it, and then Child asked about it again. And I was like, oh shoot, they've probably played a bunch of games since you asked about it last. Let me go, I'll look up their schedule, because probably they're playing today. I looked up the schedule and it was like, oh, they play again in one month from now.
Mark: They're on their summer break.
Jenny: Okay, but also their games are like,
Mark: Like once a week.
Jenny: There's like a week in between. They're like more than that for some of them. And I was like, this feels like a much more appropriate amount of this level of competition and what it does to your body versus how much rest you need in between.
Mark: Yeah.
Jenny: Come on, NBA.
Mark: Yep.
Jenny: You can do it.
Mark: Lindsey Heaps will be back for their next game.
Jenny: Are you going?
Mark: Uh, no, I think we'll be in, we'll be out of town. Got it. The next time they play, but yeah.
Jenny: That's so exciting.
Mark: Yeah. Awesome. That'll be a big lift. I think they've had a pretty solid season for a brand new team.
Jenny: Yeah.
Mark: Are you excited about the World Cup? I'm excited about it. Starting up in a few days?
Jenny: Not necessarily.
Mark: Yeah, it feels weird.
Jenny: I don't, I don't really like watching soccer.
Mark: Yeah, normally I am very excited and I am still excited, but this one just feels kind of gross because of just all the stories around stuff around it. Like the Iraqi teams, like official photographer just got denied entry to the country a couple of days ago.
Jenny: The United States.
Mark: Yes. Cool. Yeah. Yeah, so stuff like that. They expanded the field. It used to be 32 teams. Now it's 48 teams. So again, they're not going to fewer games anywhere. It's all just more. More games. They're all spread out between three different countries. The travel is going to be crazy. Yeah, but I'm sure it'll be like once it actually starts and there are like good teams playing against each other. I'm sure it'll be really fun to watch. Yeah.
Jenny: It'll get exciting at some point. I came back around to the NBA after the Thunder got knocked out. There will be some World Cup games that feel worth watching, I'm sure.
Mark: Yes.
Jenny: I'm also I should I need to caveat what I said because I did not like watching soccer for a long time. I think mostly because I had to go watch our sisters play soccer so many times. Like I didn't have a choice.
Mark: Yep.
Jenny: And watching nine year old girls play soccer is not the most exciting.
Mark: How old is your daughter? When it's your own child, it's different. Likely story. Still not that good.
Jenny: But when did they play? When did the women's national team play?
Mark: Yesterday.
Jenny: Last on a big stage was the World Cup. What happened in 2023 in the summer? Was that the last World Cup?
Mark: It's always the summer after the men's.
Jenny: OK, so I watched some of those games, the US women's national team play, and I was like, oh, watching soccer is different than what I thought.
Mark: Yeah, watching soccer was when they're really good.
Jenny: Yes, yeah. And I went to the summit home opener and that was fun, even though there was no score at the end. Yeah, it's just different.
Mark: Yeah. Well, hopefully this World Cup is fun to watch on the field.
Jenny: Something.
Mark: Would I recommend you travel here to watch if you're from a foreign country? Unless it's South Africa, probably not.
Jenny: Probably not.
Mark: Maybe Norway. Australia, Switzerland, Finland, everybody else. Maybe just catch it on TV. Yeah. For your own good.
Jenny: I'm glad we had this chat.
Mark: Me too.
Jenny: I feel like now I can move forward and thinking about the nuggets and not feeling too sad.
Mark: Put some dirt on their graves and we can talk about them again in October.
Jenny: When we're ready.
Mark: But between now and then we can talk about all kinds of stuff.
Jenny: Oh yeah. World Cup games.
Mark: The Rockies. The Rockies. Give me your hottest Colorado Rockies take. Do you know a single player on the Colorado Rockies?
Jenny: Todd Helton.
Mark: Yes, that is correct. He's in his 40th season.
Jenny: Yeah, no, we even went to a game like last, I think we went last summer.
Mark: Yeah.
Jenny: And just for the sake of like, I don't think either of our kids have ever been.
Mark: The stadium is still really nice.
Jenny: One of our kids was like, I never want to do that again because we just we were just looking at the sun. The sun was just in our faces the whole time we were there.
Mark: That makes a huge difference.
Jenny: And I was like, well, that's fine. That makes sense that you wouldn't ever want to do that again. I don't ever want to do that again. Anyway, still couldn't name a player. I was there for it.
Mark: They're kind of a forgettable team at this point, but they'll be good again one day.
Jenny: Yeah It's all ebbs and flows.
Mark: What else will we have to talk about over the summer? Waterworld
Jenny: Casa Bonita.
Mark: Mm-hmm.
Jenny: The Colfax Marathon Relay.
Mark: Yep.
Jenny: Good times. Good times.
Mark: The Beths.
Jenny: Oh, yeah. They're coming.
Mark: Mm-hmm. You got tickets.
Jenny: We're going. Is it sold out?
Mark: Yeah.
Jenny: OK.
Mark: It is.
Jenny: So listeners, audience. Sorry. You're out of luck.
Mark: Yeah. Unless you can buy some from a scalper. Yeah. Secondhand market, but.
Jenny: Pay a 2,000% markup. Mm-hmm. That'll be fun, though. Yeah. OK, but so do you have a recommendation? I do. I'm going to do mine first because you just reminded me about it and I hadn't thought of one. But a concert at the Botanic Gardens is my recommendation. If you ever have the chance to go to one of those. That's where the Beths are playing.
Mark: They're playing with Beach Bunny, too, who is also really good and could also be like a headliner at a venue like that or in a much bigger venue. Cool. Yeah. I didn't know that. I don't know how they got that lineup book together, but I'm really glad they did. It's great. Yeah.
Jenny: It's a fun situation because you get to sit the the stage is sort of like at the bottom of a bowl and it's just grassy knoll like all around it. So you just get in there as early as you can. You can bring your own food and drinks.
Mark: Chairs you like bring your own chairs.
Jenny: You can and they also have little like ones that are available to rent that are low so they won't like block anybody behind you. And then it starts, I don't know, an hour, maybe two before it gets dark. And then it just is like so lovely. A Colorado summer night is hard to beat.
Mark: I've never been, but everybody I've talked to who's been to a show there has said it's really cool.
Jenny: Highly recommend. Concerts at the Botanic Gardens. I don't know who else is playing there this summer, but.
Mark: Yeah, I was just trying to pull it up on my phone and I can't, but...
Jenny: It's a skill issue.
Mark: It's a service issue. I can't do anything on this thing right now. I don't know why.
Jenny: Is it because you're not connected to our Wi-Fi?
Mark: Yeah. It's fine, though.
Jenny: Our Wi-Fi is dead.
Mark: Oh, just typed in Beth X. You think there's a band called Beth X? My recommendation, I just watched like three videos from this. I don't know if it's like it seems like it's a group of friends, like 20-ish years old. Grant Beans is the Instagram account. So if they turn out to be like racist a-holes or something, I didn't know about that at this time and I disavowed them. They're like brand new to me. I haven't like dug into Their backstory or anything, but the three videos that I watched are so funny. They're like in the vein of Lonely Island, those kind of like sketch groups that are just running around filming stuff for fun.
Jenny: Is it music or just just the video? I don't know if they make music ones.
Mark: The three that I watched are none. None of them were musical, but they were just like very like random and maybe like a certain. sense of humor, but I thought they were all really funny.
Jenny: You got a kick out of it.
Mark: Grant beans.
Jenny: We're just crossing our fingers that they're not racist or homophobic.
Mark: If they are, I take it all back. I don't support them anymore, but if they're not funny to me anymore. Good guys, even better.
Jenny: Who can tell these days? It's not AI-generated content as far as you can tell. No, it looks quite legit.
Mark: It looks like handheld video cameras that could have filmed this stuff. 2003.
Jenny: Fun.
Mark: Yeah.
Jenny: Maybe they did.
Mark: Maybe.
Jenny: Grant beans. Okay.
Mark: Check them out.
Jenny: Look them up.
Mark: Let us know if they're anti-semites or something.
Jenny: If you have any dirt.
Mark: Yeah. We'll stop. We'll cut this part out.
Jenny: Cool. Well, see you next time.
Mark: Yep. See you next time. Let's go nuggets. Go nuggets.
Jenny: Bye bye.
